Xodus awarded with engineering and design of CCS project for Petronas

Xodus, global energy consultancy firm, announced this Monday it has been awarded with an engineering and design contract; to develop a carbon capture and storage project for oil major Petronas. The project will be the first of its kind for the oil major and will locate offshore Malaysia.

Firstly, the project aligns to Petronas’ target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The CCS project will locate on the coast of Sarawak, offshore Malaysia. It is called Kasawari CCS project, and will capture and store the CO2 related to the development of a gas field.

Secondly, working on the Kasawari project will allow Xodus to exchange vital knowledge and expertise with Petronas; in addition to national contractor communities, as well as refine its existing experience across all aspects of the CCS industry.

Thirdly, about the relevance of the contract for the company, Simon Allison, Xodus’ Regional Director for Asia Pacific, said. “This is a significant step for Petronas and Malaysia; and also aligns with our own ethos of delivering a responsible energy future.”

Xodus to extend its CCS expertise

She also remarked. “The award of this contract is a demonstration of the success of our expansion and recognition of our growing footprint across the APAC region. CCS will be a key part of a global transition to net zero carbon emissions; and our international experience and also expertise will support Petronas in delivering sustainability across future projects. We are proud to be working together.”

In addition, under the terms of the agreement, Xodus will provide engineering services; as well as the conceptual design of the project; but also, will deliver the feasibility studies.

Furthermore, according to the Xodus’ statement, the company has already extensive experience across all aspects of CCS including designing and operating systems to capture, process, transport, inject and store CO2.
