The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a notice of proposed determination (NOPD) before publication in the Federal Register regarding energy conservation standards for small electric motors.
Energy Policy and Conservation Act
The Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) requires DOE to periodically determine whether it would be technologically feasible and economically justified to modify the standards to make them more stringent and whether it would result in significant energy savings.
Notice of Proposed Determination
In this NOPD, DOE initially determined that the modified standards for small electric motors would not be cost-effective and, therefore, is not proposing to change its criteria for this equipment. DOE requests comment on this proposed determination and the associated analyses and results.
DOE will accept comments, data, and information on this NOPD until 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.
Dates and Follow-Up
DOE will send a follow-up email after the publication of the notice to announce the closing date of the comment period.
Interested persons may submit comments identified by docket number, email, and Federal portal.
DOE will hold a webinar on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
DOE Headquarters security will grant access to foreign nationals interested in participating in this webinar.
Additional information
They will post additional information on webinar registration, instructions for participants, and information on capabilities available to webinar participants on the DOE website.
They will also find product information for Small Electric Motors, including:
- current standards and test procedures,
- statutory authority,
- exemptions,
- exceptions,
- contact information.
