Verizon signs four PPAs with Leeward Renewables totaling 640MW

Verizon

Verizon, the communications technology company, announced this Thursday it signed four power purchase agreements with Leeward Renewable Energy; Leeward is a leading clean energy company that owns and operates a portfolio of 22 renewable energy facilities across nine states.

Firstly, the PPAs total 640 megawatts that Verizon will purchase from four of Leeward’s wind and solar projects under development; Blackford County Wind, Horizon Solar; the White Wing Ranch Solar projects, and an 80 MW from a wind project in development.

Moreover, the clean energy output will help Verizon achieve its goal to be net-zero in its operational emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 2035. The projects would reach completion by June 30, 2024. Each project will provide jobs and economic benefits to its surrounding community.

In addition, the projects will use wind turbines and thin-film panels from American manufacture. Leeward’s contracted solar panel supply with First Solar will enable reliable project delivery for Verizon; also, will further position Leeward to execute on its aggressive growth and resource diversification strategy.

As a result, the company’s growth strategy and project execution reliability will enhance its ability to continue delivering value-driven energy solutions to its customers. Andrew Flanagan, Chief Development Officer at Leeward, said about the matter. “We are excited to expand our established relationship with Verizon, which speaks to Leeward’s strengths as a partner in helping our nation’s leading companies meet their sustainability goals.”
