Today, Forbes named Sempra Energy within its “America’s Best Employers for Diversity” list for 2021. Thus, this award marks the third consecutive year that the Company has been recognized.

In fact, Sempra Energy ranked 79th out of 500 companies this year, up from 328th last year. Besides, it was the second-highest-ranking employer in the utility industry.

Sempra Energy and its commitment to become a more diverse employer

Today, Forbes recognized the American utility company Sempra Energy within its America’s Best Employers for Diversity list for 2021. Accordingly, this is the third time that the Company receives this recognition.

Indeed, the Company ranked 79th out of 500 companies this year. Therefore, Sempra went up from the 328th position received last year.

Moreover, Forbes recognized the Company as the second-highest ranking employer in the utility industry.

This is critical to elevating performance and allowing us to partner responsibly with our communities as we look to build North America’s premier energy infrastructure company.”

According to Sempra Energy, the Company focuses on building a high-performance culture across its family of companies. Therefore, this aim is underpinned by its long history of promoting safety, advancing workforce training and development. Also, of fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives and backgrounds are embraced.

Actions and programs to enhance diversity

Hence, the Sempra Energy family of companies offers various programs to enhance diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. For instance, including 16 employee councils, mentorship programs, training, and an annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit.

Moreover, the Company is a founding member of the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion initiative and a Paradigm for Parity coalition member. In fact, the latter organization promotes gender parity in the workplace.

Besides, the Company hosts dozens of enterprise-wide and department-level conversations. Furthermore, it engages thousands of employees at all levels to actively participate in discussions on the impacts of racism, resulting in Sempra’s Racial Equity Action Plan

On the community’s side, the Company is looking to invest in and promote economic opportunity and well-being within the communities it serves.

For instance, in 2020, the Company’s foundation launched a giving campaign focused on social justice across communities. As a result, it raised more than $700,000 in employee donations and company matches.

In fact, this campaign was part of a more extensive set of community investments totaling over $17 million that directly benefitted diverse communities. For instance, including people of color, immigrants, women, and minority-owned small businesses.

Furthermore, the Company commits to increase the number of STEM programs. Therefore, Sempra works with schools and nonprofits to advance the mentorship of young women who are seeking careers in these fields.
