Digitalization is not synonymous with unemployment generation. Experts discussed the importance of digital tools for the energy industry.

Alberto García-Jurado from Agile Collaboration, Andrés Sammartino from Rockwell Automation, and Roberto Luna from Endress+Hauser Mexico discussed the importance of digitalization and innovation strategies in the energy sector.

They talked about it at the Energy Oil & Gas Summit, sponsored by Energy & Commerce, Alestra, and IOS Offices. Participants agreed that digitalization and innovation are at the center of future trends in the energy industry.

Why going digital?

The importance of companies going digital is, according to the panelists, that the benefits are enormous, and the barriers are decreasing. Furthermore, innovation can make companies more competitive in the long run.

The participants pointed out that digitalization is not synonymous with generating unemployment. It can be better understood as the allocation and conversion of human resources to achieve more efficient results.

The concrete benefits of using digitalization strategies in the industry are real-time decision making, trend tracking, process optimization, remote access to data, remote customer services, predictive analytics, and better return on investment.

Could digital tools predict risks?

The panelists added that through digital tools such as augmented reality software, cloud computing, machine learning, and Industry 4.0, companies could accelerate processes and predict risks.

How to go digital?

Finally, to digitalize, companies must first analyze their businesses and the technologies closest to them. The participants concluded that the reconciliation of IT and OP could translate into tremendous opportunities for competitiveness, security, and reliability for utilities.
