Boehringer Ingelheim, the pharmaceutical and medical company, has transitioned to green energy, specifically wind, to power its largest manufacturing site in the U.S. The site locates in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Firstly, the site will now operate with 100% wind power, coming from the Cimarron Bend Wind Farm operated by Evergy Inc, with which Boehringer Ingelheim signed a 10-year contract. This transition will reduce the site’s emissions in nearly 76 per cent.
Secondly, Boehringer Ingelheim’s site in St. Joseph employs nearly 1000 people, who manufacture vaccines for horses, pigs, cattle and other animals. The company has been doing so in the community for over a century.
Therefore, this efforts by the company will have a broader benefit to the town where it operates. In fact, Evergy Inc, the company to supply the wind energy, serves about 1,6 million customers in Kansas and Missouri.
Thirdly, this is not the only effort by Boehringer Ingelheim regarding renewable energy in the U.S. In North Brunswick, N.J, a manufacturing site of the company has also transitioned to renewable energy, by a power purchase agreement.

Boehringer Ingelheim on a full scale transition to green power
Also, a poultry-vaccine manufacturing plant in Gainesville, Ga., is on pace to become Boehringer Ingelheim’s first major U.S. production site to go carbon neutral. On the other hand, company’s headquarters, located in Ridgefield, Conn., has also transitioned to renewable energy.

He also added: “As a company that thinks in generations, we know that an investment in environmental sustainability will pay dividends for years to come.”
Finally, the company has also transitioned to renewable energy in an international scale. A company site in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, also plans to reduce its carbon footprint by about 30 percent a year; by using natural gas to generate electricity.
