IHS Markit’s 37th Annual World Petrochemical Conference (WPC) took place at the Hilton Americas in Houston, TX. The conference’s main subject was Navigating towards Net-Zero: Seeking a Sustainable and Valuable Chemicals Future through Integration and Innovation.

Moreover, WPC began on March 22 and ended on March 25, 2022. It counted with the participation of more than 125 speakers from de IHS Markit and across the global petrochemical industry.

In addition, WPC offered both in-person attendance and a virtual platform. It is reported that nearly 1,500 people from more than 550 companies and 47 countries attended. Accordingly, 40% of the attendees were from the Chemical Manufacturing sector, and 28% either influenced or made a final purchasing decision.

WPC 2022 overview

The World Petrochemical Conference provided a space for global chemical industry executives, senior leaders from supply chain and other organizations, and IHS Markit experts to discuss energy transition to a lower carbon footprint amid the current and forecast industry cycle.

Executive Conference

Additionally, some of the attendees had the opportunity to participate and hear the Executive Conference, featuring leaders from the top chemical companies and organizations.  Some of the key themes were Net Zero: Carbon Management, Leadership and Global Energy Transition; Environmental, Social, Governance: The Role of the Financial Community; Supply chains: What does the post-pandemic recovery look like? Among others.

Some of the speakers were Jim Fitterling, Chairman and CEO Dow; Karen McKee, President ExxonMobil Chemical Company; Yousef Abdullah Al-Benyan, among others.

Breakout Tracks

Besides, they also had the opportunity to participate in Breakout Tracks, where they could discuss and hear experts discuss strategic assessments, outlooks, and new developments. Some of the topics were Aromatics & Fibers Intermediates, Adjusting to the post-pandemic world; Feedstocks & Refining Integration, Mobility changes and a reinforced focus on low-carbon energy; Specialties & Intermediates, Specialty Chemicals-The Raw Materials of Sustainability.

Among the speakers were Aaron Brady, Vice President, Crude Oil Market Servicer, S&P Global, and Sandeep Sayal, Vice President, Downstream Energy Research S&P Global.

Special Programs

Moreover, the conference offered Special Programs designed to dive deeper into key markets. Among the topics covered were Supply Chain Summit, Global Supply Chains in a Post Pandemic World; Latin America Petrochemical Summit, Challenges and opportunities under the Net-Zero Evolution; Trading Spotlight, Changing global landscape-Where is the market headed in 2022 and beyond. There were also some forums like the China Forum and the India & Middle East Forums.
