Engie and Hannon Armstrong complete 2,3GW renewables portfolio

ENGIE-North-America-Releases-2020-Sustainability-Report

Engie North America Inc., a leading developer and manager of renewable energy assets, announced that it commissioned the final project of a 2,3-gigawatts renewable energy portfolio in the United States.

Firstly, the portfolio is joint ownership between Engie and Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure Capital Inc., a leading investor in climate solutions. The final renewable project is a 50-megawatts solar farm in Virginia.

Moreover, there are 13 renewable energy projects online; including 1,8GW of onshore wind, and 0,5GW of utility-scale solar projects. According to the statement, all projects will generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of 500,000 US homes.

In addition, the portfolio began its construction in 2019, through 2021. The nine and four solar projects received support from more than 3,500, mostly local jobs during the construction phase. Furthermore, Engie developed the portfolio, but it will also be its operator.

The projects will provide long-term property tax revenues in 15 counties across five states; supporting services and growth in these predominantly rural American communities. Dave Carroll, Chief Renewables Officer, Engie, said about the matter. “The energy transition requires innovative, large-scale actions like this to accelerate our pace to meet the climate challenges.”

He also remarked. “Our successful delivery of this world-class portfolio of renewable projects demonstrates what (is possible) when you have the right team and the right partners.”

On the other hand, Engie focuses on increasing its renewable platform in the U.S. and reducing the carbon intensity of other industries. As such, each of the 13 projects has off-take agreements with customers.

Hannon Armstrong Chief Client Officer Susan Nickey, said. “Achieving the final commissioning of this landmark multi-gigawatt renewable portfolio was only made possible through the incredible collaboration and best-in-class execution of our valued partners at Engie.”

Finally, the executive also remarked. “We share a common mission to accelerate the rapid adoption of climate solutions, and we believe this portfolio of projects is a model example of what can and must be done at scale to meet our country’s ambitious decarbonization goals with clean and reliable energy.”
