American Lithium Corporation, leader in development of lithium projects, received a grant funding representing the 50% of the total investment for a lithium extraction and hydroxide pilot plant. The company announced this Thursday.
Firstly, the funding comes from the Department of Energy Advanced Manufacturing Office, with co-recipient American Battery Technology Company (ABTC); it also has another industry partner.
Secondly, the grant funding will allow the company to complete field demonstration of selective leaching, targeted purification; as well as electro-chemical production of battery grade lithium.
Thirdly, these activities will take place in U.S. claystone deposits; specifically, in the company’s TLC project, in Tonopah, Nevada. According to the statement, the funding comes as the U.S. government tries to reduce its dependance on foreign supply of this metal.
Moreover, the project looks to “utilize ABTC’s proprietary lithium extraction technologies to extract it from American Lithium’s unique TLC claystone deposits.” As the site has unique properties and the potential for fast and efficient, cost-effective extraction.

The company, however, will proceed with its own initiatives to offer the best processes for extraction; but, currently, will participate on DOE’s funded pilot project which uses ABTC’s technologies in combination with TLC claystone deposits.
In addition, Mike Kobler, company’s CEO, said. “It’s exciting to be working with ABTC and also others on this multi-year industry led partnership; to improve the production of lithium hydroxide from domestic sources.”

Finally, the company also announces that its subsidiary, Macusani Yellowcake, received injunctive protection from a judicial review in Peru. The process is in regards to 32 concessions relating claims from local regulators disputed by Macusani.
