Honeywell to supply energy storage solutions to solar park in New Mexico

Honeywell

Honeywell, the technology company, announced this Monday it will supply energy storage solutions to a solar park located in New Mexico. The solar facility is a project from Chicago-based solar developer Hecate Energy.

Firstly, Honeywell will deliver a full energy storage system (ESS) to Hecate Energy’s solar park in Northern New Mexico. When completed, the facility will have a capacity of up to 50-megawatts; enough to power 16,000 New Mexican homes for a year.

Moreover, the project is a part of an initiative by the Public Service Company of New Mexico and will help meet the state’s decarbonization goals. Particularly, the solutions from Honeywell will deliver a 20MW capacity of storage, combined with the Experion Energy Control System.

The combination will allow a battery-powered platform that integrates asset monitoring, distributed energy resource management, supervisory control, and analytics functionality. As a result, the Hecate Energy project will be able to accurately forecast and optimize energy costs at the site; and ultimately support users having access to reliable and cost-effective clean energy.

In addition, the ESS will also have performance and outcome-based guarantees; those include predictable and consistent costs, improved uptime, and “revenue stacking” capabilities. Consequently, the asset owner will be able to use the ESS for more than one use-case application; including peak shaving, backup power generation, and demand response programs.

Alex Pugh, Hecate’s Project Manager, said about the agreement. “We chose Honeywell for this landmark project because of their depth of knowledge and decades of expertise. We believe in collaborative relationships with the clients and communities we serve, and Honeywell will work closely with us to deliver carbon-free energy to the people of New Mexico.”

On the other hand, Ujjwal Kumar, President & CEO, Honeywell Process Solutions, said. “Honeywell is in a unique position to address today’s challenges in energy management and our work with Hecate represents another key step in global decarbonization efforts.”

Finally, he remarked. “Hecate Energy, much like Honeywell, is focused on innovation and the latest technologies to lead the change in energy transition, making them an ideal collaborator in bringing renewable energy options to the table.”
