Talen Energy awards Linxon a substation order for data center in Pa.

Talen Energy

Talen Energy, an independent power producer based in Pennsylvania, selected Linxon to deliver three greenfield substations for Talen’s Cumulus Data Center Project in Salem Township. The substations will connect to the 2,500-megawatt (MW) Susquehanna nuclear power plant.

Firstly, Cumulus data is a portfolio company of Talen Energy. Founded in 2020 to invest in opportunities created by the conversion of digital and power infrastructure. In July, Talen announced that Cumulus had a project to develop a data center focused on crypto mining. The data center would receive clean power produced from the Susquehanna nuclear power plant.

Moreover, the award to Linxon is precisely to develop the substations needed to power the data centers. In the statement, Linxon says that a portion of the 2500MW from the Susquehanna plant will supply power to the newly designed 400,000 square foot Cumulus data center campus, located nearby the plant.

Therefore, Linxon will deliver turnkey solutions for the project. It will utilize products from Hitachi Energy for the 500/69 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS); the 230/69 kV GIS, and hybrid substation. The solutions from Linxon will help the substations to accelerate their process of design, engineering, permitting; and even the procurement, and construction.

About the relevance of the award, Stefan Reisacher, CEO of Linxon, said. “We are proud to bring our expertise to Talen Energy and thank them for their confidence in our capabilities. Our unique offering and solutions are key to providing reliable energy to our clients, especially for data centers that are essential for the ramp-up of the economy.”

He also remarked that Talen Energy is using available undeveloped land around the Susquehanna plant to create business opportunities; while also creating jobs and other economic benefits during the construction and operations of the project.

Finally, he commented. “We are excited to break ground on this project and look forward to working with Linxon to deliver the critical substation installations.”
