Emerson, the global technology and engineering company announced this Monday that is has helped Alaska’s largest wind farm to become more resilient and efficient. The company deployed one of its digital transformation solutions for the betterment of the asset.

Firstly, the project that received Emerson’s solutions was the Golden Valley Electric Association’s (GVEA) Eva Creek Wind farm; the largest wind farm in Alaska, as said above. The wind has nearly a capacity of 25 megawatts.

Secondly, the projects generates reliable, low-cost electricity to customers, while reducing fossil fuel usage in nearby communities; as rural communities in the region are on the front line of climate changa; given the extreme weather, a project like Eva Creek is primordial for the assuring of energy.

Thirdly, Emerson deployed its Ovation automation platform; plus, its OSI monarch software to increase its reliability; in fact, the solutions delivered fast results and helped the utility to reduce 65% its cost of operations and maintenance.

Emerson uplifted Eva Creek’s performance

Moreover, Emerson’s platform simplified Eva Creeks management; also improved its equipment so it could perform diagnostics and data analytics more accurately; and also, to forecast and dispatch its output at top quartile performance. Therefore, achieving more resilient, responsible and a smarter power grid.

In addition, about the relevance of Emerson’s solutions for the utility, Frank Perkins, GVEA vice president of power supply, said. “Emerson is a key collaborator in our goal to increase access to clean energy for our customers in northern Alaska. Our investment in a common automation platform helps us efficiently incorporate more renewable energy; and also, minimize our carbon footprint.”

On the other hand, Bob Yeager, president of Emerson’s power and water solutions business, said. “Increased visibility into Eva Creek operations enables GVEA to further safeguard the reliable operation of this critical source of renewable energy for northern Alaska.”

Finally, he also remarked. “With Emerson’s comprehensive portfolio of sustainable grid solutions; GVEA is well positioned to optimize operations across its entire power system, from generation to meter.” For the quality of its solutions, Emerson has been ranked as the leading distributed control systems provider for the global power generation industry, according to Omdia.
