RCM Technologies completes critical electric project for AEP

RCM Technologies, a provider of technology and engineering solutions to enhance operational performance of electric companies; announced this Wednesday it completed an Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) project which involved the installation of a new high-voltage substation for a major U.S. utility: American Electric Power (AEP).

Firstly, the project consisted the full design and construction of the new Esperanza Substation; which consists of a 138kV three breaker ring bus and two 28.8 MVAR capacitor banks; in Matagorda County, Texas.

Secondly, RCM constructed the 138kV substation in eleven months; through the use of Integrated Design and Construction technology. The substation will also help AEP to better power the need of its customers.

Thirdly, according to Jim Nivens, Project Manager for transmission projects at AEP; RCM was able to meet the utility’s desire for a turnkey solution, also including scope and a finished project. Indeed, AEP has been an important client of RCM’s; and has involved RCM in numerous projects.

Moreover, the substation project also included the design and installation of approximately 0.75 mile of double-circuit 138kV line; which connects the new Esperanza Substation to the existing Blessing – Celanese 138kV Transmission Line. After these developments, the New Esperanza substation will also interconnect 50MW of load from a local industrial user.
