Wind blades plant in Mexico from Nordex, to be taken by TPI Composites

A wind blades manufacturing plant in Mexico, operated by Nordex Group; one of the world leading manufacturers of wind turbine components, will be taken over by TPI Composites. After the companies agreed on a partnership that will have Nordex transferring its operations to TPI.

Firstly, the wind blades plant locates in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. According to the statement, the transferring of operation will happen within a period of three years; starting this very month.

Secondly, the partners aim to further increase the efficiency and output of the wind blades production; this, in order to expand to other markets, besides the American one. Under the agreement, TPI Composites will start producing the wind blades and deliver them to Nordex, exclusively.

Thirdly, the agreement includes a point in which the operation of the facility will return to Nordex after the three years period; around 2024; but also includes an extension option depending on mutual agreement.

Moreover, TPI Composites will also take over on the 1500 employees that work on the site; in order to ensure production continuity of the plant. The transaction is an milestone for Nordex, as it will help it to grow its market by strengthening its global production footprint and increasing the flexibility of its key component supply chain.

Wind blades plant transaction to strength relationship between companies

In addition, José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group, said about the agreement. “This partnership allows us to safeguard our profitable growth in the coming years; and also, to capture further market opportunities by securing fast deliveries; and also high delivery reliability for our US customers in particular. This enables us to focus our resources on our other worldwide strategic ramp-up activities.”

He also remarked. “We are very pleased to have TPI, the leading global manufacturer of rotor blades with a strong foothold in Mexico, as our strategic partner.”

On the other hand, Bill Siwek, TPI’s President and CEO, said. “We are pleased that the Nordex Group has chosen to expand the relationship with TPI; by trusting us with their blade production in Mexico. It has been a strong global relationship since 2013.”

Finally, Nordex and TPI have been working together closely for years; since 2013, the Nordex Group has been purchasing its rotor blades from TPI in Turkey; from TPI in China through 2020, and started buying rotor blades from TPI in India in 2021.
