GAF Energy announced today it is improving a 112,000-square-foot facility in San Jose, California, that will serve as the company’s center for research and development (R&D) and manufacturing. Accordingly, the roof-integrated solar solutions provider will bring off-shored solar manufacturing activities to the U.S. through this center.

Moreover, the U.S. leading provider of roof-integrated solar solutions expects the buildout of the property and its ongoing operations to result in hundreds of clean energy manufacturing jobs. Besides, GAF Energy stated it aims to highlight that this will be the U.S.-made solar roof product.

In fact, GAF Energy is part of the Standard Industries Group and a sister company to GAF. Remarkably, the company focuses on bringing extensive roofing manufacturing and R&D expertise to the solar industry.

Reception from the parties

David Millstone and David Winter, co-CEOs of Standard Industries, commented on the R&D center development; “Driving the next generation of solar innovation is a top priority for our business. So, we’re proud to be making this investment here in the U.S.”

According to the CEOs, “with this facility, GAF Energy is advancing (its) vision of an integrated product that’s attractive, affordable, reliable, and easily installed. Mainly so that every new roof has the option to generate solar power.”

Similarly, Martin DeBono, president of GAF Energy, expressed in a press release; “We’re extremely excited to have found a home for our first combination R&D and manufacturing facility. Indeed, solar roofing is the future of the industry; thus, the research, innovation, and manufacturing for that future will start at this facility.”

In addition to the benefits for the industry; “the co-location of R&D and manufacturing is a huge benefit for the scientists pushing the envelope on what’s possible for the product” said Mr. DeBono.

In conclusion, the company said it aims to continue empowering roofing contractors across the U.S. Particularly, with a comprehensive and economical approach to solar installations.
