Sungrow to provide 100 MW energy storage to Chisholm Grid in Texas

Sungrow Texas energy storage

Sungrow, a global leading renewable energy company, announced this Friday it will provide a 100 MW of energy storage capacity to the Chisholm Grid project, in Fort Worth, Texas. The contract with Sungrow contemplates the procurement of its fully integrated energy storage system.

Chisholm Grid project has been under construction since August 2020, and once completed, it will be the largest battery storage facilities in Texas. Completion of the construction phase is expected to end this June.

Once operational, the project will use the leading technology of the NMC batteries; thus, generating revenue from the sale of energy and grid stabilization services for the ERCOT wholesale electricity market, according to the company’s statement.

The ESS solution deployed by the company for this project is one of the latest from the company. Ion-battery-based, provides also Sungrow’s advanced converters, controls and operational management. Services from Sungrow will be held under a long-term services agreement, reducing costs and extending assets life cycle.

The project is owned by Astral Electricity, a private energy storage producer, and was developed by Able Grid Infrastructure Holdings, which is a joint venture between Able Grid and MAP RE/ES.

Sungrow will ensure grid’s reliability

In this regard, operational management will be under Able Grid’s hands, following the project’s operational date, in mid 2021.

About the objectives of the company with the project, Neil Bradshaw, Senior Technical Sales Manager, commented. “Safe operation of the project is of vital concern to us. Not only is every cell protected electrically in a three-tier BMS system and supervisory controls; each small battery module has internal thermal barriers and suppression technology.”

“Sungrow is eager to show the world that battery energy storage at this scale is a safe, reliable and sustainable solution to ensure grid reliability amidst demanding market operating conditions,” he added.

“Years of innovation by Sungrow as a global technology leader now allows companies like Astral Electricity to deploy market-driven solutions that will accelerate the decarbonization of electricity supplies; while also improving grid performance. Sungrow’s highly-integrated offering, history of successful deployment and collaboration with technology providers were key factors in our supplier decision,” concluded Aaron Zubaty, CEO of MAP RE/ES.
