Stantec acquires Cox|McLain EC pursuing sustainability goals

Stantec

Stantec, a global engineering and design firm specializing in environmental services, announced that it acquired Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting, Inc. The company is a full-service environmental consulting firm with comprehensive environmental and cultural resource compliance services.

Although the terms of the acquisition remain secret, Stantec states it goes along with its commitments to sustainability. According to the statement, the acquisition was a strategic expansion of Stantec’s environmental services, paired with several other acquisitions to support such an objective.

Firstly, Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting, Inc. focuses on environmental compliance and planning. Its capabilities in natural and cultural resources assessments and permitting; and its wind and solar renewable energy projects made the perfect choice for Stantec.

In addition, Stantec recently completed the Cardno acquisition, and other three environmental services-focused firms: Minnesota-based Wenck; California-based Paleo Solutions, and Netherlands-based Driven by Values.

Stantec to deepen its envrionmental services capacities and geography

As a result, the Cox|McLain acquisition is the most recent of a series of investments focused explicitly on strengthening Stantec’s capabilities in environmental services. Gord Johnston, CEO of Stantec, said about the matter. “Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting (CMEC) has exceptional senior leadership and talented technical staff that add new skillsets to our Environmental Services team which can be leveraged across the organization.”

He also remarked. “This transaction supports our strategy in Texas, and CMEC’s offices in Oklahoma add a new geographic presence to our United States operations. CMEC will strengthen our expertise, geographic depth, and service offerings for our clients, especially within the environmental, natural resources, energy services, transportation, and cultural resources markets.”

Finally, CMEC has its headquarters in Austin, Texas, with additional offices in Houston and Irving, Texas; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma; Washington DC; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After the acquisition, CMEC will add depth to Stantec’s current Environmental Services team in the south region.
