Quantum Fuel Systems to deliver hydrogen trailers for Certarus

Quantum Fuel Systems

Quantum Fuel Systems, a fully integrated alternative energy company, announced this Monday its been selected by the company Certarus to deliver industry-leading virtual pipeline trailers for hydrogen in December 2021.

The solution that Quantum will provide is its trademark VPLite-H45/40′ trailers, which have a gas mass of 803kg at 3,600 psi (248 bar). The trailers will be delivered in both the U.S. and Canada.

Also, as part of its product portfolio, Quantum Fuel Systems offers a virtual pipeline trailer for hydrogen at 5,000 psi (345 bar) with a gas mass of 1,195 kg. Indeed, the company has a long history with hydrogen, starting back in 1999, when the company launched the world’s first 5,000 psi hydrogen system on a commercial vehicle; and then later as the first to certify a 10,000 psi hydrogen storage tank to international standards.

Consequently, Quantum Fuel Systems is a true leader in its field, with decades of experience developing and bringing innovative transport trailers and industry-leading Type 4 cylinders for hydrogen.

Quantum Fuel Systems using modified natural gas platform for hydrogen

Curtis Philippon, CEO of Certarus, said about the award to Quantum. “We chose to expand our partnership with Quantum because of their extensive experience working with hydrogen and the proven quality of their virtual pipeline trailers that enable us to safely deliver zero-emission energy anywhere our customers need it.”

He also commented. “Together, we offer a mobile solution that addresses infrastructure issues and makes hydrogen immediately available to industrial customers looking to reduce their carbon emissions and improve their environmental performance.”

On the other hand, Mark Arold, President of Quantum, noted about the company’s technology. “Quantum’s VP Lite45/40′ for natural gas hauls the most gas in the industry in a 40-foot container and has an excellent track record. Using that proven platform, but modified for hydrogen at 3,600 psi, is a great starting point to begin transporting gas for hydrogen projects.”

He also said. “Quantum already has a 5,000 psi version of our VP Trailer that is ready and available as the next step as our customers expand their capabilities and requirements to haul more hydrogen. Quantum applauds Certarus’ vision and leadership, and we are very excited as we continue to expand our partnership with them.”
