Today, Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI) and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) announced they closed the deal to acquire UK-based Smarter Grid Solutions. However, neither SGS nor Mitsubishi Electric disclosed the terms of the transaction. Indeed, SGS is a leading developer of software management solutions for the distributed energy resources (DER) market.

About the relevance of the DER market

In fact, and it is worth noting, globally, the power electric market is focusing on developing decentralized generation sources; including, for instance, DER and SGS’ enterprise software solutions. Particularly, the latter is used to manage power grids and market participation in energy systems with high penetrations of distributed, clean and flexible energy assets.

Per the acquisition, SGS will now report to Mitsubishi Electric Corporation’s North American power systems subsidiary, Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. Besides, it will maintain operations in Glasgow, Scotland.

Besides its operations in Scotland, Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS) has offices in Glasgow, Scotland, and New York City. Specifically, the company develops products to manage power grids and market participation in energy systems; particularly, with high volumes of distributed, clean and flexible energy assets.

Further, SGS’ customers use its DER management system (DERMS) products to integrate DER into markets and grids. Accordingly, they deliver grid capacity management, flexible interconnection, virtual power plant, microgrid, fleet energy asset operations, energy as a service (EaaS), and local energy applications.
