siemens gamesa

Siemens Gamesa, one of the biggest wind energy turbine makers has secured a new deal to provide its technology to Vendavel Energy; under the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will supply 8 SG 5.0-145 model turbines, one of the most powerful onshore wind turbines in the country.

Firstly, the wind turbines will go to the Vissima wind farm, located in Macedonia, Northern Greece; the project, currently in late stages of development, will come online to be commissioned in the last quarter of 2022.

Secondly, this new farm aims to heavily contribute to Greece’s energy transition, as it will have an estimated 40 megawatts of capacity; enough to provide electricity to around 35,000 households; it will also help to avoid the emission of 105,000 tons of CO2 a year; the equivalent to the emissions of more than 60,000 vehicles.

Thirdly, this newly signed contract will further strengthen the ties that the company has in the country; and with Vendavel specifically; after it signed a first deal for the Melia project; a 35 MW wind farm which started producing energy at the beginning of this year.

Siemens Gamesa high-ranked in ESG rating

Moreover, the company has installed around 98 MW of wind turbine capacity in Greece in the first half of 2021; accounting for 38% of the country’s total, the company’s general manager in Greece, Spyros Rozis said, quoted by local media.

On the other hand, for the company’s performance and strong environmental, social and governance agenda, it got a high ranking on S&P Global ESG rating. As we reported previously, the turbine manufacturer achieved a final score of 84/10,0; which in fact, shows robust preparedness to face future disruption in the industry, S&P analysts stated.

Furthermore, S&P recognized that Siemens Gamesa continues to lead cutting-edge technological developments. Particularly, ones that bring significant environmental benefits to customers in the transition toward a low-carbon economy. Therefore, the company was ranked number five worldwide and number one in Spain in the worldwide league table.

Finally, worth noting, Siemens Gamesa is the first wind turbine manufacturer to receive this evaluation from S&P.
