TotalEnergies and Amazon partner on electricity supply and online strategy

Earlier today, TotalEnergies and the tech giant Amazon announced a collaboration for the supply of renewable electricity to the latter company. Particularly, this partnership will help TotalEnergies strengthen its digital strategy.

Accordingly, the companies said on Thursday that they signed power purchase agreements for a commitment of 474 megawatts (MW) of renewable capacity; specifically, in the United States and Europe. Additionally, and it is worth noting, TotalEnergies and Amazon expect to expand their cooperation in the Middle East and the Asia Pacific.

On the other hand, Amazon would also help TotalEnergies moving more material to cloud computing services, as well as other areas.

About the collaboration between TotalEnergies and Amazon

Particularly, this collaboration between TotalEnergies and Amazon will contribute to the latter’s commitment to power its operations with 100% renewable energy. At the same time, the retail giant will help the French renewable energy major accelerate its digital transformation.

Accordingly, TotalEnergies outlined that it will accelerate its move to the cloud, boosting its IT transformation and the digitization of its operations. Similarly, the Company will improve its digital innovation ecosystem with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a key cloud provider.

Therefore, the TotalEnergies and Amazon collaboration will help Total’s digital factory benefit from the breadth and depth of AWS services; for instance, including infrastructure, speed, reliability, and innovative services.

In this sense, Stéphane Michel, the president of gas, renewables, and power at TotalEnergies, said in a company statement; “Indeed, TotalEnergies is deeply committed to reducing the carbon emissions of its operations. Also, to support its customers to do the same around the world,”

Besides, “by signing this agreement, we are proud to enter into this key collaboration with Amazon. Also, to accompany them on their journey to carbon neutrality,” he added. Thus, “we are also counting on Amazon and AWS to help us advance our exponential shift; particularly, in the speed, scale, and advancement of digitalization.”

Similarly, Kathrin Buvac, the vice president of AWS Strategic Industries, said; “working with TotalEnergies on innovative cloud technologies to ‎drive reductions in carbon emissions and present new renewable energy sources is a tremendous opportunity.”

Hence, “this collaboration will not only accelerate TotalEnergies’ migration to the cloud,” she continued. “But also contribute toward Amazon’s commitment to power our operations with 100 percent renewable energy.”

Other digital collaborations by TotalEnergies

In fact, and it is worth noting, last month, TotalEnergies revealed that it had partnered with Uber; particularly, to accelerate the transition of Uber’s drivers towards electric mobility.

Similarly, back in March, the Company agreed to collaborate with Microsoft as strategic partners; specifically, to further digital transformation and support progress toward net-zero emissions.
