Vestas wins 60 MW repowering order in the US

Today, the energy industry’s global partner on sustainable energy solutions, Vestas, announced it secured a 60 MW order for an undisclosed repowering wind project in the U.S. Worth noting, the project is located in an earthquake-prone area. Thus, Vestas developed a customized solution to fit the site’s climatic conditions, including a mix of V117-4.2 MW and V117-3.45 MW turbines.

About the project

Per the customer’s request, Vestas said the customer and project names are undisclosed in a media release. However, the order includes supply, transport, and commissioning of the turbines. It also consists of a multi-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. In fact, this agreement will serve to ensure the optimized performance of the asset.

Moreover, turbine delivery will begin in the fourth quarter of 2021, with commissioning scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.  In fact, these turbines’ specifications are 4.3 MW and 3.6 MW operating modes, respectively. Besides, the Vestas’ tailormade solution includes a tower design that can be extremely useful in an active seismic zone.

In this sense, Vestas said in a media release that it has a long history of offering a local expertise to help its customers navigate extra regulatory procedures around seismic compliance. The company also noted that these elements were critical to enable the full repowering of the project.
