Private companies start importing gasoline for the first time via Tuxpan. ExxonMobil and Trafigura initiated imports from the Itzoil Terminal.

According to the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), ExxonMobil and Trafigura are the first private companies to import diesel and jet fuel from the Itzoil’s 1.4-million-bbl International Fluid Terminal in Tuxpan, Veracruz, the nearest to Mexico City.

Current operators of the Itzoil Terminal are Monterra Energy and SSA México. The facility storages standard gasoline, premium gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel (Jet A-1), with an expected capacity of 100.000b/d liquid hydrocarbon’s offload and 2,2 million barrels’ (Mb) storage.

Trafigura already started importing diesel and jet fuel earlier this year. On October 2nd, the company imported more gasoline through the 290,000-bbl Marlin Azurlite ship.

Data from the Market Intelligence Network show ExxonMobil also imported gasoline through the 333,500-bbl BSL Elsa vessel on September 18th.

ExxonMobil with second largest importer position

The two companies reassert their place within Mexico’s top-ten largest gasoline and diesel private importers through these actions.

For instance, ExxonMobil currently holds Mexico’s second-largest importer position after Valero, and Trafigura continues increasing its import activities in different country’s terminals.

Besides, the firms join Koch Industries (Vopak terminal at the Port of Veracruz) and Glencore (Axfaltec marine facility at Dos Bocas, Tabasco) as the only private marketers in the Gulf of Mexico through medium-range vessels offload.

Shell is also expecting to offload its first cargo and join ExxonMobil and Trafigura at Itzoil’s marine terminal.

Tuxpan will also harbor Shell, Valero, IEnova, Total, and Repsol under-construction import-fuel terminals in the coming months.
